Grant will discuss using the Raspberry Pi platform to construct an aviation radio receiver that can get weather and traffic into the cockpit and onto a tablet. The hardware cost is less than $150 for something that comes close to matching and in some cases exceeding the capabilities of a $550 - $900 commercial device. He will describe how the unit is built and used in the air, and show how it compares to the commercial unit.
As usual we will be having a "Meeting After the Meeting" for talk and drinks afterwards, currently planning on being Gordon Biersch restaurant in the Bolingbrook Promenade outside mall.
The previous IIT-Rice location in Wheaton we had been enjoying over the past decade is no longer available. Use the library's FAQ (http://www.fountaindale.org/about/faq) as a source for how to get to meeting.
