Abstract

In this presentation, we will cover the basics of EJB technology, and how to quickly setup the JBoss open source application server to run EJB technology. Some of the areas of interest that we will cover include:

  • What is an EJB and how are they used?
  • The 3 types of Enterprise Java Beans and when to use which one or a combination of all 3.
  • Quick high level overview of how clients and other EJB's communicate with each other
  • Quick overview of performance issues and an overview of performance techniques that should be considered for any design
  • Speaker Bio

    Cedrick Johnson is an avid technology nut, constantly evangelizing technologies that are changing the way companies do business. Johnson has been experimenting with new ideas in Java since late 1996, and has been a part of the Open Source movement since late 2000. Johnson works for Catylist Real Estate Software, Inc. in downtown Chicago.

    Getting to the meeting

    The next general meeting of UniForum Chicago will be:

    Take 355 to Butterfield Rd (Rt 56).
    Take Butterfield West to Lambert Rd, then Lambert Rd North to Circle Drive.
    Turn right and look for Lot 8 or the Faculty/Staff parking lot (just north of Lot 8).
    Walk to the SRC building, and enter through the south entryway.
    Room 1450 is on the first floor, accessable through the cafeteria by walking through it to the far north end.
