Michael J. North

Tuesday July 13th 2004 at 7:00pm
College of DuPage, SRC 1450a

Abstract

The University of Chicago and Argonne National Laboratory's Repast is the leading free and open source agent-based modeling tool. Repast is a pure Java software framework for creating agent-based simulations. It provides a library of classes for creating, running, displaying and collecting data from agent-based simulations. The development of Repast is currently managed by the Repast Organization for Architecture and Design (ROAD). The talk will introduce agent-based modeling in the context of the Repast system, will discuss Repast and will provide examples of Repast's use.

Speaker Bio

Michael J. North is the Deputy Director of the Center for Complex Adaptive Agent Systems Simulation (CCAASS) within the Decision and Information Sciences Division of Argonne National Laboratory. He is an internationally recognized leader and speaker in the agent-based modeling community. Argonne is operated by the University of Chicago for the United States Department of Energy. Mr. North has fifteen years of experience developing advanced modeling and simulation applications for various branches of the federal government and several international agencies. In addition, Mr. North has published more than twenty-five papers in refereed journals and international conferences. Michael North is one of the lead Repast Java developers and is a member of the ROAD Board of Directors. Mr. North holds an M.S. in Computer Systems Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology as well as degrees in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering Science and an MBA.
