The WebGUI Content Engine is two things in one, it's an enterprise level content management system and a development platform for building web apps. WebGUI has all the features you'd expect to find in a dev platform like Catalyst or AxKit, because everything in WebGUI has a standardized pluggable API. But at the same time, WebGUI is completely built ECMS that you can use immediately with no modifications. This means you can get up and running quickly, and add in what you need. This session will walk you through how to use WebGUI, spend a few minutes on the architecture and API of WebGUI, and then dig in to writing a couple of plugins for WebGUI. And best of all, we'll do all that in 60 minutes or less!
JT Smith is the lead developer of WebGUI. He started the WebGUI project exactly five years ago from nothing and has nurtured it into a giant application with more than 250,000 lines of code. Since you know how small Perl programs are, you understand what it takes to make one that big! JT has been a contributor and leader in the open source community for more than 10 years. Besides WebGUI he helped organize the Chicago Perl Mongers meetings for a year, ran OSS Chicago for a year, and lead the open source Business Integration Engine (BIE) project for three years.
