Routers and Switches and Hubs, Oh My!

Mike Andrews

Ameritech Corporate IT

Tuesday, April 28, 7:00-9:00pm
College of DuPage Room K-161

Abstract

An overview of what's what in the jungle of today's computer networking scene. Learn where the each of the more common beasts of network hardware fit in its habitat in its layer of the networking diagram. We'll discuss the newly discovered genus including "layer 3 switches" and "layer 4 accelerators."

We'll also talk about how to make your way through the layers of thicket while being wary of the vermin: the basics of TCP/IP and just why you must protect yourself with a netmask; and how to troubleshoot your network problems when your trusty network administrator isn't nearby.
