How to Stop Spam

Abstract

This meeting of UniForum Chicago will be a panel discussion on Spam (or Unsolicited Commercial Email - UCE). The panel consists of three local technical experts on dealing with Spam.

This will be a moderated panel discussing the following three questions (or more if necessary).

What can an individual do to stop receiving UCE?
What can an ISP do to stop UCE?
What can a corporation connected to the Internet do to stop UCE?

Panel Bio's

Karl Denninger is the President and CEO of Macro Computer Solutions, Inc., owner of the MCSNet Internet Service. Mr. Denninger's experience with data communications, including electronic mail and network applications, stretch back to 1981 and encompass both public network and enterprise-related work.

Gregory Gulik is co-founder, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer for WorldWide Access, a premier Internet Service Provider serving Chicago and surrounding areas. Mr. Gulik is a graduate of DePaul University and has worked at AT&T Bell Laboratories and Motorola Cellular Infrastructure Division where he has been involved in leading networking based technologies.

Matt Hucke is an independent UNIX consultant, currently working as sysadmin and programmer for two web presence providers, and also maintaining an internal LISTSERV installation at Ameritech. He has been actively fighting SPAM for three years.

Getting to the meeting

The next meeting of UniForum Chicago will be from 7:00 pm to 9:00 PM on Tuesday, January 27, 1998 at the College of DuPage. The address of the meeting facility is:

Take 355 to Butterfield Rd (Rt 56). Butterfield West to Lambert Rd. Lambert Rd North to first right after College Road. Park in lots 7 or 8 and walk to SRC building. Room 1024 is on the first floor of the SRC building, near the entrance.
